The Castlegar Social Planning Society exists to recognize the needs of our community and to sustain and nurture this community’s social development. We seek to find answers and to create solutions to a secure, healthy, sustainable civil society whose members are strengthened and mobilized to work together as a community.
PURPOSES OF THE SOCIETY ARE:
- To strengthen the community’s ability to work together to create and sustain a secure, healthy, civil society for all.
- To coordinate community social planning initiatives and activities and offer processes that support the social, cultural, health, justice, economic, and environmental needs and interests of the community, that emphasizes good citizenship, and that include a local representative system for setting priorities, making decisions, and taking action.
- To develop and maintain a relevant knowledge and research base from which to draw upon in planning and decision-making.
WHAT IS COMMUNITY SOCIAL PLANNING?
Community social planning is a local, democratic system for setting priorities, arriving at equitable compromises and taking action. It supports community needs and interests in social, cultural, economic, and environmental affairs. It is a process for building community well-being. Community social planning is also about celebration; acknowledging and recognizing the human and natural assets that give meaning and worth to the community.
